Flavonoids from Apis mellifera Beeswax

چکیده
The flavonoids present in beeswax produced in “La Alcarria” region were analyzed by HPLC. Pinocembrin, pinobanksin, pinobanksin 3-acetate, chrysin, galangin and techtochrysin were detected as the main flavonoid constituents. This is the first detailed report on the flavonoids o f beeswax. These substances are already present when wax scales are secreted by bees. The same flavonoid compounds were generally present in honey, propolis and Populus nigra bud exudates collected in the same geographical region. These results indicate that bees wax flavonoids originate from those o f honey and/or propolis, and suggest that analysis o f beeswax flavonoids could be used as an adjunct in the detection o f beeswax adulterations.

Pesticide residues in beeswax samples collected from honey bee colonies (Apis mellifera L.) in France.
In 2002 a field survey was initiated in French apiaries in order to monitor the health of honey bee colonies (Apis mellifera L.). Studied apiaries were evenly distributed across five sites located in continental France. Beeswax samples were collected once a year over 2 years from a total of 125 honey bee colonies. Multiresidue analyses were performed on these samples in order to identify residu...

The response of male and female Small Hive Beetle (SHB), Aethina tumida, to air-borne volatiles from adult worker bees, (Apis mellifera), pollen, unripe honey, beeswax, wax by-products (“slumgum”), and bee brood, was investigated in olfactometric and flight-tunnel choice bioassays. In both bioassay systems, males and females responded strongly to the volatiles from worker bees, freshly collecte...

Beeswax is a multicomponent material used by bees in the genus Apis to house larvae and store honey and pollen. We characterized the mechanical properties of waxes from four honeybee species: Apis mellifera L., Apis andreniformis L., Apis dorsata L. and two subspecies of Apis cerana L. In order to isolate the material effects from the architectural properties of nest comb, we formed raw wax in ...
متن کاملExposure to clothianidin seed-treated canola has no long-term impact on honey bees.
We conducted a long-term investigation to ascertain effects on honey bee, Apis mellifera L., colonies during and after exposure to flowering canola, Brassica napus variety Hyola 420, grown from clothianidin-treated seed. Colonies were placed in the middle of 1-ha clothianidin seed-treated or control canola fields for 3 wk during bloom, and thereafter they were moved to a fall apiary. There were...

Some floral pigments (including antioxidants); carotenoids, chlorophylls, anthocyanins and xanthophylls were determined colorimetrically in some honeybee, Apis mellifera L., products; citrus, clover and cotton honeys, three types of beeswax; white, brown and dark and propolis; brown, dark brown and dark. Two solvents (acetone or ethanol) were used for extraction and determination of pigments at...
